Pete Yeates left this review about Palace Hotel
Known locally as the "Gin Palace".
The palace Hotel stands on the corner of West Street and Lawford Street. The story goes that it was built near Midland Road as the LMS railway was destined to have their Bristol station there. As the railway never came, the rest of the hotel was never built.
The public bar is a real oddity; one end of the bar is at ordinary height, but due to the sloping floor, the other end is only a couple of feet or so off the ground!
