A classic boozer and very well known for live music.Entering via a side door the interior is L shaped with the front section running along the roadside ending in the stage. The other leg has the handpumps,a bar billiards table with a wooden cover which is also a game of drafts on a massive scale. On a wall are the awards that the Pitfield Brewery won together with awards for Dark Star brewery .The pub owner was the founder of these breweries ,part of the revival of real ale by microbrewers in the 80's for which we all should be most grateful.
The furniture is traditional and the stained glass in the uppers of the front windows is impressive. There is a beer garden through some french windows at the rear.
On my Saturday visit the handpumps were drawing Gun Scaramanga and Zamzama IPA,the house Wellington American Pale (a homage to Dark Star APA),Hop Back Summer Lightning (NBSS 4.5),Downton Cascade,Pig & Poter ESB Galvanise and Sambrooks Four Chimneys. That's a great range of styles and strengths and would form the basis for an excellent session. The list of ales conditioning in the cellar was equally impressive and shows a great rotation policy which will bring ale drinkers back on a regular basis to see whats on.
When a band is on it's loud and hectic but the traditional interior and terrific ale make this a destination pub,the best in Shoreham and a leading real ale venue on a national basis.A must visit for anyone into their ale.

The Wellington is an excellent beer-focussed pub a short walk east of Shoreham's main attractions (such as they are), owned by one of the founders of the late Dark Star Brewery. I found 8 or so handpumps serving independent brewery ale from Gun, Only With Love and so on and including their own 4.8% APA, in tribute to the now lost Dark Star brew. A good selection of well-chosen kegs supplements these, making an extended stop an easy option for the ale afficionado.
The music may be a little louder than I'd really like, but there's a great buzz of conversation in this rightly busy pub.

The Wellington boot hanging outside is a sure sign that you're at the pub. This is a good sized standalone building with a beer garden at the rear. The exterior is very unique and was once a Kempton Brewery Pub. The interior is Arts and Crafts in style with stained glass leaded windows. A collection of beer tankards hangs from the ceiling around the main lounge. Other features were the bar billards at the end of the bar and I also noticed an old can of Watneys party seven above the bar area.
Nine handpumps with 7 ales and 2 ciders. The line up was Dark Star Hophead, Duke of Wellington Brewhouse American Pale, Gun Brewery Zamama IPA, Three Acre Brewery Skylark Stout, Southern Strong Ale, Galaxy Rain and Wantsum Millers Mirth. Two ciders were, Lilleys Elderflower and Westerns Vintage. Definitely one for a revisit.
