The Horse & Jockey is a well-used boozer with a very worn carpet and tired décor. There is seating up the left-hand wall and under the front window adjacent to a fireplace on the right-hand wall. I noted disco lights and some DJ equipment, but I didn’t see any live entertainment adverts, although there was some background music coming from a music TV channel. In the right rear the U-shaped bar counter serves this front area and a games room with a pool table and dartboard in the rear. The governor was friendly enough, but the two hand pumps stood unused leaving a standard keg range alongside Cruzcampo. This place is an OK local, but I doubt many have purposely travelled far to visit.

A good looking part brick, part timbered pub on the main road. They have a sign outside saying "Try our range of cask ales". This didn't take long as they didn't have any. One pump unclipped, one with a turned around Hobgoblin Gold badge on it and one serving a real cider. Very disappointing. It's rather smaller than it looks from the outside with one medium sized room with a pool table to the rear and a huge TV showing daytime TV including adverts. It's quite nicely decorated, but in a very modern style, completely at odds with the outside. I ended up having a quick half of fizz. If they'd had any ale as advertised and it had been decently kept then this may well have been a 7.
