The Star & Garter is a large stand-alone Robinsons pub with Star Hotel etched into the windows, I’m not sure that they still offers rooms. A couple of very high steps lead up to the entrance that opens into the red floral carpeted pub with walls adorned with pub and sport ephemera and where televisions are found throughout for airing football, all of which were muted in favour of music off the jukebox during a recent midweek evening visit. The L-shaped serving counter sits mid-way up the left-hand wall where it serves the centre of the pub and a seating area with a dartboard in the left rear. There are also dartboards across the front windows either side of the entrance, this is certainly an arrows pub. The service was polite and the locals on the dartboards all seemed to be nice enough, but alas the lone hand pump was unused, although someone has knitted it a cute little hat. As a sports, and especially a darts, fan I liked it in here, but the options of only standard keg and Madri will keep many away. Also, it’s cash only.
