Closed and boarded for a while, a planning application has now been submitted for a new shopfront and signage to facilitate conversion to a Sainsbury's Local.

The Victoria has now reverted to what I'm told is its previous incarnation following some years named as "The Mad Hatter". A single room, the bar is central and U shaped, the floor is wooden with a tiled splash area adjoining the bar. Mostly standard seating in tables for four, but there are a couple of sofas too. A TV was muted with the juke box playing rather loudly in my opinion.
Now not the only "Vic" in Surbiton, so care needed of you arrange a meet here or there!
The pub seems to be trying to be a bit upmarket, there are tea light candles and small vases of flowers on most tables, there are lots of modern art prints and a photo of a LT Routemaster 38 on its way to Victoria Station. Add on cut logs on a framed box over the single unused fireplace, grey painted lower wood panelling, curtains with tie-backs and so on. It doesn't work for me in that way, but the clientele on my post work visit didn't seem to disagree either being mainly builders post work and other solitary drinkers checking bets.
The service was friendly enough, the beer fine even if the three handpumps could only dispense CW Bombardier,(£3:00) .
Despite being an open area, the three remaining doors give a clue to the original pub layout, as do the pier and arches to the right hand side of the bar on entering.
A new venture, the beer was in fine condition if not desperately exciting. Good luck for the future of this pub.
