(2025 revisit)
A few refurbs later, this still rates quite well as a pub, remaining much of the original layout albeit with stripped woodwork and other unnecessary foibles. Note the former billiards room with glazed light and the side rooms. It also remains largely as a pub rather than a restaurant unlike most of its Young's brethren, with dining mostly restricted to the back areas. However another refurb is due shortly so things might change. The cask ales were Youngs Original, Special, and Hogs Back TEA.

One of Youngs's better refurbishments. Several rooms, with different atmospheres but has the buzz of a good pub. Beer always in good shape and you seldom have to wait long to get served.

Random stop as I spied the Youngs Winter Warmer amongst the pumps (three on in all). A shadow of the beer it once was and fairly lacklustre on the serve too (NBSS 2.5). Pub itself is a modern scrub-up (quite literally at the bar, which has been crudely sanded-back from its dark varnish) and isn’t much to write home about, the small snug bar excepted. The rather tidy-looking Gents sadly stank of piss and there was no soap. Zero reason to leave the Coronation, John Young must be shaking his ghostly fist at the idiots who let Youngs slide into the irrelevance it is today.

A good sized Victorian high street pub,a largish central bar with rooms either side ,five hand pumps in each side although they are mirror image so five beers in all.Being a Youngs pub four were from the Wells stable being Youngs Bitter and Special,Wells Bombardier and Waggle dance along with a guest of Twickenham Naked Ladies ,I plumped for the latter and it was OK rather than outstanding,what wasn't OK was being charged the odd and rather flamboyant price of £4.19.I did note from the tariff on the wall after my purchase I could have had a pint of Youngs ordinary for £3.57,(assuming the tariff was up to date) ,I obviously paid the price for choosing the guest beer.A nice enough pub but the beer I tried wasn't worth anywhere near the price paid so unlikely to revisit in the near future.
