Characterful old inn on 'The Walks' above the village green on the Kent side of the river. Mainly a food destination these in various small dining areas forming a L-shape around the bar (with a oddly disused snug on the other side), so it's pot luck finding a seat if just looking for a drink unless the weather is good enough to sit out on the narrow front patio. Very traditionally furnished and decorated throughout. Three real ales on handpump: the local Larkin's Traditional (£4.40), Brumaison BB and Harvey's.

Brick and tile hung Elizabethan pub on the green facing you as you come from the Sussex part of Groombridge. The bar faces you as you enter, with a dining room off to the right, and a snug up some steps behind the impressive fireplace. Some nice tiling and related brickwork-the pub is on the regional register of important pub interiors, and seems genuinely unspoilt.
A hot late June Saturday lunchtime, we sat outside under one of the limetrees with our dogs, and enjoyed some pretty topnotch Larkins Traditional, together with BB from Brumaison, a fairly new Kent Brewery,This pub was once connected to Black Cat Brewery, and there was a reversed pump clip advertising one of their beers.Service was friendly, and the food genuine, and not overly expensive for the area.
I've always liked the look of this pub:it has taken me over 40 years to actually visit it.We might well return.

Pleasant pub on a small green offering decent food and ale. Accomodation is available although when I enquired about a room I never received a reply to my e-mail!
