Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Cassidy's
Little change from my last visit nearly five years ago, when I pondered why Tunbridge Wells needed an Irish-themed pub, but it was busier than I've seen previously. The interior is also a bit more interesting than the dull frontage would suggest, with an upstairs gallery running all around the rectangular bar to supplement the small raised seating areas on each side of the door and the wooden patio benches out front. Decor-wise, it has just the sort of tat that one might expect but still lacks an authentic feel. Naturally, it has no real ale but at least you can get a pint of Murphys as an alternative to the inevitable 'black stuff' and John Smiths. On this visit, I also noted several bottled bitters in the fridge, but in the end I went for the keg Guinness Golden Ale (£4.50).

Located down the short and narrow Castle Street which has a cobbled road is an Irish pub called Cassidy’s. The interior is rather dark and there is an O’Neill’s feeling about the place, but I feel that I am doing a disservice to this pub by associating them with the plastic oirish chain. The bar is located on the back wall downstairs and there is a balcony that overlooks the bar as it sweeps around the second floor seating area. There are a few snug areas tucked away in the dimly lit corners and there are a couple of plasma screens for showing Sky Sports. There is also a projector screen for the big games and there was some low background music playing off the jukebox during my recent Wednesday afternoon visit. The pub was empty before I walked in so the barmaid was using the free time to do some cleaning, but she was straight behind the bar to serve me as soon as I was noticed. She was very friendly and poured a decent pint of Guinness. There are no real ales here, but I don’t know of many Irish pubs that have hand pumps.
There are better pubs in the area, but this is probably the best Irish one!
