Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Victoria Inn
I'd passed through the village of Witton-le-Wear earlier in the day on my tour of County Durham, but neither of the pubs were open. This one is the first to open during the week (apart from Monday when it is closed) at 5pm.
There are 3 sections to the pub. 2 of the sections are to the left-hand side where there is a raised area with some comfortable and modern seating. Nearer the bar are a selection of armchairs. This area is carpeted, apart from bare boards near the bar. Food condiments suggest that food is served, but nobody was eating and there was no sign of any menus. There are some old pictures of the local area on the walls. Music was playing in the background.
The section to the right of the bar has a dartboard and many pumpclips on the ceiling. TVs on both sides of the bar were both showing Pointless. A terrace to the rear has good views over the rolling countryside and also contains a pizza oven.
With just two other customer (a guy at the bar) and another with his dog, it was fairly quiet early evening. Three cask ales were on - Allendale Golden Plover, Wensleydale Lights Out & Three Brothers Ruby Revolution. Beavertown Neck Oil was the craft beer and the cider was the seldom seen Woodpecker. My Ruby Revolution was very enjoyable and easily the best beer I sampled during the day.
What the Victoria lacked for in atmosphere was made up for somewhat with the good quality beer. I think I would be happy for this to be my local.
