The Birches Head has a small left-hand public bar with a dart area at the rear and a counter on the right by the entrance. Standard and premium keg are supported and the two hand pumps were drawing Pedigree and Bass. In the right-hand side is another bar area with some seating and a fridge full of cakes. A step drops down to a large rear dining area, I didn’t see a menu, but the three course roast advertised up on a board was priced at £16.95. The governor was very friendly, but I didn’t take to this place and will walk past when next in the area.

We called in as part of our tour of pubs in Stoke on Trent serving Bass. This one had a Pedigree pump clip on the solitary hand pump, but a half pint glass upturned on the handle indicated that there was no real ale available.
