South Shields best kept secret!
The Maltings is the home of the Jarrow Brewery, which is on the ground floor. The Jarrow ales and guest beers are excellent. Never less than six hand pulled are available. The staff offer small samples for you to try, if you are not familiar with the brews. Excellent range of lagers, and not the usual suspects. An very good array of bottled ales and lagers, including fruit beers.
Though the pub is on the first floor - there is a lift.
Da, the Thai chef, serves fantastic home cooking - Thai home cooking! Tuesday through to Saturday.
The meals are cooked to order using fresh ingredients, not frozen meals.
Service can be a little slow, but always well worth the wait.
Don't worry about the how spicy the meal is - all meals can be ordered mild, medium, hot and very hot, as all meals are cooked to order.
All in all a cracking place.

This is the Jarrow Brewery tap, and is defo worth a visit. The brewery is situated on the ground floor. When entering through the double doors, you will see a staircase on your left, which leads you up to the lounge and bar. The lounge features ornate plasterwork ceilings, combined with lots of bespoke timber work. When visiting allow plenty of time as it's hard to leave. Serves very good Thai cuisine and their kitchen is closed on Mondays. 12 handpumps including some ciders. I went for the Jarrow Maggies Back, Jarrow Swinging Gibbet and Jarrow Westoe IPA. Will defo call again.
