Strongers . left this review about Coda Bar
I walked past this pub many times during its previous guise as the Black Sheep and I never felt the compulsion to pop in as the exterior was decrepit with black marks on the walls where the old pub sign used to be. I wouldn’t normally let this discourage me, but the door was always open and the layout and locals in attendance always put me off going in and I’ve been to some grim places in my time. Walking past last Saturday afternoon I noticed that the name has changed to the Coda Bar so I took a deep breath and ventured in to find an empty bar that is sparsely decorated with a few small sofas dotted about and a couple of glass tables. There is a pool table, but the dartboard has gone and been replaced by some disco lights. Maybe this is a late night music venue as it did have that feel, but I spotted no advertisements for any upcoming events. The two plasma screens were showing music videos, but Sky Sports is available and the football is shown when it is on. There is also a fireplace with a metal guard around it so I imagine that it is actually used during colder times. There is no real ale here, but various lagers are available and the Guinness was OK. Presently there is no food, but a banner out the front is advertising for someone to take over the franchise of the kitchen – anyone for Thai?.
There is a small seating area out the back that is advertised as a beer garden and there is also a car park that can also be used by commuters who want to leave their car for a fee.
I can’t see myself returning here; not even for the killer pool competition every Sunday.
