Rural pub now run by Woodforde's and aimed very much at the middle class gastropub market. Wherry, Nelson's Revenge & Bure Gold were the 3 real ales.
We sat in the modern extension of the pub and indulged in a £5 sausage roll, which we shared. There is a large garden at the rear, which was being enjoyed by a fair few and their kids. The original part of the pub still remains with 3 small rooms and very low doorways. Just one couple were sat in this part, but it looked quite atmospheric.
At the entrance to the pub's car park, you can also visit Nelson's Map Room, a museum with a large map on the floor and various interactive displays. Woodforde's seem to be trying to create their own tourist attraction, but behind the scenes lies a nice traditional pub.

The Lord Nelson is off the beaten track but it is definitely worth seeking out. It's a warren of different rooms, many given over to eating including the large restaurant area at the back. There are a couple of cosy bar areas though where you can happily sup without food. There's also a large garden which makes the pub very popular in the summer when they do excellent barbecues with interesting menus.
I only had soup, which was good, but the menu is definitely a cut above the average boozer and there's a focus on local produce.
Beer: Interestingly, the Nelson doesn't have a bar so all the beer is taken straight from the barrel. Abbot and Woodforde's Wherry are standard but over busier periods they offer Nelson's Blood from the Fox Brewery in Heacham which is very good and worth seeking out. It is also always available in bottles.
An interesting boozer which just about deserves it's GBG listing and is worth at least one visit.
