Thuck Phat left this review about Crown Inn
The Crown Inn is now the Duck Inn, an Elgoods house and gastropub which has made it into the Top 50 Gastro Pub list for 2019 at number 35.
It has clearly been relatively recently refurbished to create it's new gastro pub with rooms incarnation and feels fresh and smart with one or two original features such as fireplaces remaining.
The main entrance takes you straight into the relatively small bar area where there were plenty of drinkers on our early evening visit so it clearly still functions as a boozer serving the drinkers of Stanhoe.
The restaurant reception is straight ahead, to the left of the bar on the right hand wall as you enter and beyond this are various discrete dining areas. As expected, most of the space is taken up with eating.
The menu is locally sourced, varied and interesting and all of our food was excellent although it isn't cheap with mains up to and occasionally over £20.
Three beers were on handpump, two from Elgoods - Cambridge Bitter and Duck with Adnams Ghost Ship alongside them. Not being a fan of Elgoods generally I went for a Ghost Ship which was well kept, beautifully poured and flew down.
This is really a place to come for a decent meal and I'd happily return for that but were you staying in the village then it is perfectly serviceable as a boozer serving well kept ale.
