The Crown & Crooked Billet enjoys a village-like location overlooking a village green. It was very busy on my Sunday afternoon visit, with locals both drinking in the main bar area and dining in a rear conservatory. The pub has clearly been refurbished since the last review in 2012. There was a good atmosphere, with live rugby being shown on the TV.

Plenty of staff were on had for both bar and food service. However, the ale range is fairly bog standard considering it has a listing in the 2022 Good Beer Guide. Fuller's London Pride & Sharp's Doom Bar are the regular beers. Guests were Greene King IPA, Adnams Ghost Sheep & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Having the Black Sheep reminded me why I normally avoid it.

I visited this pub once before over forty years ago. There is an entrance next to the car park which we decided not to use as one of the customers was standing outside it smoking and spitting, which should have given us a indication of what to expect. Inside, it does not seem to have been decorated since the last time I visited. As we walked through the pool table area into the main bar we felt uneasy and decided not to stay. It appears to be one of those pubs that is alright if you are known. I did notice Marstons EPA and London Pride were available on hand pump plus another one. It is not one we plan to visit again.
