One of the state managed pubs from the first world war, and now the brewery tap for Carlisle Brewery. WhatPub says many original features are retained, but the different fireplaces at each end of the large front room suggest that there were two rooms originally. The building is Grade II listed, though, and very pleasant. Four hand pumps with three Carlisle beers on (see photo). My pint of the 3.7% bitter was very welcome after my cycle ride from Borrowdale (NBSS 3.5).
