A decent traditional pub, the interior is basic and functional with a large oblong shaped lounge and bar area as you enter, plus a further smaller lounge on the right hand side. The décor was white painted walls and woodwork and was carpeted throughout. A large picture of the Whitley Bay lighthouse on the left hand wall, added some interest. The pub also had some picnic benches out front and a raised patio area on the right. Six ales on handpump on our Saturday afternoon visit, Ossett Brunette, McColls Suma, Consett Ale Works Red Dust, White Rat, Salopian Darwin Origin and Durham Magnus. We tried a few of their beers, all of which were in good condition. The staff were friendly and chatty and the pub serves food on a daily basis and most meals are priced around £5.
