The building dates back to 1693 and was originally a house but in 1890 was the Prince of Wales pub which changed it's name in March that year to The Forth Bridge Hotel when the future King Edward the 7th opened the Forth Rail bridge.As i was walking along i seemed to be beckoned towards the pub's front door and as mentioned this is an interesting pub that is full of character.A the 5 hand pumps were in operation on my morning visit with the stout in top notch condition.
This place is certainly worth a visit if in the area but be warned if you use the short cut just under the bridge to the railway station there are around 130 high steps to tackle on the way up.

An unusual interior, which has been well described by Roger (below). The double barrel vault ceiling is very striking, and the pub feels both interesting and welcoming. On the bar are five hand pumps, with four beers available at the time of our visit. Caledonian Deuchars IPA was joined by three beers from the local Stewart Brewing company. We only had time for one beer in South Queensferry, and we were glad that we'd decided on this pub - definitely worth a visit.

The Ferry Tap stands at the heart of the historic and picturesque main street and looks the part with its attractive gabled frontage, overhanging pub sign and a burst of blooms. However, as a regular Good Beer Guide entry, the pub isn’t just all show.

The L-shaped interior is full of character with bare floors, shallow barrel ceilings, dark polished wood, barrel tables and canopies bearing a large selection of drink trays. Old brewery mirrors compliment the collections of bottles, jugs and other oddments and there were a brace of flat screen TVs plus a Big Screen mainly aimed at sport fans.

There were 5 ales available on my visit, 4 from the Fyne Brewery (Innishail, Highlander, Avalance and Vital Spark) and Caledonian Deuchars. The food menu was quite simple but very good value (the Ferry Tap Style Burger with haggis and ale sauce is highly recommended!) with most main courses under £7.

For some unfathomable reason, the pub displays a strong legience to all things Argentinian with argy flags prominently displayed and even special offers on Argentinaian Qilmes beers during the World Cup. Overall the atmosphere was very friendly and I didn’t find it as touristy as some of the other pubs further down towards the rail bridge. From my brief experience of the area, this is certainly the pub to head for before all others.
