The inn sits on the A70, which was the old road from Lanark to Edinburgh. The place is heavily populated with big private sandstone properties especially when coming into the Mid Lothian side of the Lothian’s from Lanark. The place has a large coal fire, which can be very relaxing if you get a good seat during cold winter months. There are three real ales available two of which come from the local Caledonian Brewery and varying guest ale. Nine draught products are also available plus gins, malts, specialist liqueurs, wines, ciders and cocktails. There are plenty of table available and meals are served from 12:00pm up to 09:00pm. Watch out for the lagers at the left side of the bar, under the heaving frosted ice pump there is a temperature gauge showing –2 degrees.

I am original from surrey in England and I stated at the Riccarton Arms during the England v USA game. The banter in the pub was brilliant. At one end there was a St.Goerges cross draped from the fire place with alot of English fans and at the other end was all the scottish fans and they were all supporting USA. This added to the atmosphere and the banter. At no stage did I feel threatened by the locals they were very friendly, it was just a great night. I would go back there any time, what a night.
