Unrepaired broken glass door panels are never a promising sign when entering a pub and the bar room inside was predictably run down looking and in need of refurbishment. There is a separate lounge next to it which was closed on the Friday evening of my visit, but appears to be still in use, and some picnic table seating outside. This faces onto the road junction which gives the pub its name, although an additional road has been built since the pub opened, so it should really now be called Fiveways. The bar was entirely male dominated and the TVs were both showing horse racing. A pint of Tennent's lager cost me £3.00 and Carling lager, John Smith's, Guinness and Strongbow cider were also on draught. Given that this is one of only two remaining pubs in the substantial village of Newmains, it came as a major disappointment and is probably best avoided unless you're really desperate for a drink.
