Situated not to far from the main Regents shopping centre and close to other similar type bars (Courtyard, Manhattan, Stonehouse)the George is a pretty popular bar in Hamilton - A pretty basic looking bar from the outside but on entering its a nice clean looking traditional styled bar with white walls and dark wood tables and panelling, The bar area is nicely stocked with various beers on tap (Tennenets etc) but more importantly it has the only selection of real ales in Hamilton ( and probably one of the few in Lanarkshire outside of Glasgow) usually only 3 (4)real ales at one time but they are good ones (selections from Strathaven, William Brothers, Stewart, Thwaites, Caledonian, Bellhaven breweries etc) the George also has a good selection of bottled beers and spirits are also available - prices are the norm for Hamilton (about £3.10 a pint of Tennents & Real ales from £3 - £4 etc). Friday nights are traditionally busy with a really popular local (legend) DJ playing some really good tunes from 60s - today (not al the run of the mill chart busters, some long forgotten gems also)- Fridays can be packed out later at night by a mixed but generally older crowd (over 40 but younger folk go a s well) all a really nice bunch. Bar staff are really friendly. The George can take a while to fill up at the weekends and can be , like most bars very quiet Monday - Thursday. Sunday they have live music (folk mostly) and although I have never eaten in the George I hear they do really nice food. The George has ample seating (tables. stools and places to put your pint) and space at the bar to stand etc - Worth pointing out that they also also serve pints in 1/3 pint glass.
The have a website so worth checking out - A great pub for a quiet drink or a good night out Fri /Sat , well worth a visit

A rare oasis in the real ale desert of industrial Lanarkshire, The George is a several times past winner of CAMRA Glasgow and West of Scotland’s Pub of the Year award (most recently in 2008). Only Independence Ale (a Scottish brew) and Hooky Bitter were available during my visit, with a third hand pump temporarily out of use. Tennents lager, Belhaven Best and Guinness are also sold on draught. It is a fairly basic, square shaped bar, with one TV screen and music playing at a level which was almost inaudible below the conversation. It's nothing much to look at from the outside and currently doesn't even display its name. Prices are slightly higher than most of its nearby rivals, but worth paying for the pleasant friendly atmosphere of a proper real ale pub.
