Blue Scrumpy left this review about Selkirk Arms Hotel
With the barman in the Masonic Arms warning us that the Selkirk Arms had gone downhill and that we'd probably not be able to get in without a reservation, we proceeded into this hotel/restaurant with some trepidation.
We need not have worried. A reservation was not required and whilst this is very much food-focused with all tables set out for food, we were welcomed in and they had a better real ale selection than the Masonic, with Caledonian Deuchars joined by Five Kingdoms Rebus.
There are 3 rooms, with a large dining room to the left as you enter (through the side of the building), a smaller cosier lounge to the right and a bar area in the middle.
Having skipped breakfast, we were looking for lunch and arrived hungry. My black pudding starter was delicious. Staff were very friendly and professional.
Whilst definitely not a wet-led pub, the Selkirk Arms does host beer festivals. Although beer festivals around here are only 5 beers! Nevertheless, this was easily the better of the two pubs we visited in Kirkcudbright.
