Blue Scrumpy left this review about Rose Cottage

Too many times I head to pubs expecting to find them open and instead find them closed. However, I very often head to some pubs expecting to find them closed and instead find them open! This one was a case in point, having re-opened last week.

I initially came by mid-afternoon on a Thursday and noticed the front door open. However, whilst the exterior door was open, another door was still locked. I then found a side door and entered to speak to the chef. He told me the pub had re-opened last week and it would be opening its doors at 4pm. It looks like opening hours at present are only Thursday-Sunday but they hope to open more regularly soon.

I returned after 4pm to find the pub already busy. There are a couple of rooms with a tiled floor. Exposed stone walls feature with a fireplace at the far right-hand end of the front bar. An area to the left is wallpapered. With a mish-mash of furniture, it is all quite colourful and the odd bit of greenery is provided by plants. The rear room seemed slightly larger and followed the same theme. Music was playing. An interesting feature is a spa and sauna which can be booked. The pub also has good disabled access, with one of the customers being in a wheelchair.

At the bar, I was expecting a keg-only selection but a handpull takes pride of place in the middle. This was clipped with Penzance Crows-An-Wra. Luckily the landlady was chatting away with some locals who had been there for the re-opening party the previous week and the wait whilst she was serving them prompted me to spot 3 bag-in-the-box ciders at the back of the bar. All were from the Bearded Brewery - Storm Damage, Swallow's Rest & Rum Damage. I later noticed them listed on a blackboard to the side of the bar. Craft beers are also represented with Harbour Pale Ale & Goodh Magic Gardens & Little Fish. A "cash is king" sign was on the bar, but cards are still accepted.

My Rum Damage was quite a sweet cider with a definite hint of rum. Whilst I was there, menus were placed on each table. The menu is limited with just 3 mains. Green curry with a choice of chicken, prawn or veg and crab linguine were both £16. A burger was £14.

For a pub I'd fully expected to be closed, I was very impressed. It was my favourite pub of the day in Cornwall and should prove to be a valuable re-addition to the limited number of pubs in Redruth town centre.
