The etched and frosted windows of the Griffin allow passers by to have a glimpse in, but not too much to reveal what is going on inside where there’s a tiled floor and central U-shaped serving counter. High tables stretch across the front and dark red banqueted booths run up the left. There’s more banquette seating on the right wall towards the front before a beer shelf that runs up the right-hand wall opposite the stool lined counter. A couple of steps at the rear ascend to a dining area that was closed during a recent midweek evening visit. This is a Sky brewing pub so the four hand pumps were drawing their Skye Black, Skye Red, Skye YP and Skye Gold, the latter being a bit bland. There are a couple of televisions that were showing an advert for the pub and also a Channel 4 program while some niche background music played. This place is certainly worth a look, if only for one.

Four hand pumps, split between two parts of the bar, with all beers from Skye Brewery (see photos). My second photo involved asking two bar hangers if they wouldn't mind moving, and the rest of my visit was taken up with explaining to these two contract workers from Nottingham why keg beers like Neck Oil are cold and fizzy, and what Camra is for and why this pub has a heritage interior, and what a snug is. Nice guys! My half of Skye Gold was fine, if a little unexciting, but I know the brewery and this was probably another NBSS 3.5. I almost got my two new friends onto this for their next drink, but they compromised with the Skye IPA 5% on keg. Maybe next time.

A very fine exterior and interior, this pub was closed for quite a while during Covid but has reopened under the ownership of Isle of Skye Brewery .The etched glass windows are set at a jaunty angle ,while the interior has a long central bar serving two sides, with seating booths in red leather on one side, more vertical drinking on the other. The carved woodwork around the front is noteable and mosaics feature. There is also a large rear room but more modern in styling. There are regular comody evenings,it's a lively place popular with the young but attractive enough to warrant close inspection.
There were 4 IoS brews on during my trip their Red,Black,Gold and Tarasgeir (a peat flavoured speciality NBSS 3.5).
A great new addition to the City Centre drinking scene, this is the place to sample IoS brews and it's such an attractive pub.Now a must visit, great double header with nearby State Bar.
