Approaching from the wrong direction, you might be forgiven for thinking, as I initially did, that this pub had been converted into an Indian Restaurant. The most prominent sign above the side street entrance says “Saffron - Fine Indian Cuisine.” Fortunately, around the corner on the main road, another sign says “Coach House Inn.” It is, in fact, both, with the Inn occupying the lower floor and the restaurant the upper one. The bar is a run of the mill Scottish pub, with a pool table, dart board, games machines, TV and juke box. It is, however, owned, run and staffed by Indian people, which gives it its only distinguishing feature. A pint and pakora is on offer for a fiver and, unusually for Scotland, Indian Cobra lager is available on draught. Also on tap are Caledonia Best, Strongbow cider and Tennent‘s lager (at £2.95 a pint). As a pub, this is nothing special, but a good place to go for some pre-curry drinks.
