Formerly known as the Black Bull Hotel, this has been extensively modernised since I was last here and the bar is now no more than a minor feature of the establishment. It occupies only a small corner of the lower floor, just off the entrance lobby, and is in the style of a modern and plastic looking bar/bistro. The toilets are very inconveniently located at the other end of the ground floor in the Residents’ Lounge (although it’s possible that this is just a temporary measure). My pint of Tennent’s lager was less expensive than I had expected at £3.20 and Guinness, Belhaven Best, Strongbow cider and a real ale called Old Golden Hen are also on draught. I wasn’t, as you can tell, impressed with the bar, but the Hotel itself, it should be said, looks excellent.
