Similar to the nearby North in the sense that not a vast amount has happened to it over the last 40 years. This one’s less charming though, a long plain main room in the front and a more homely little one behind the bar. Classic colours - white, varnished wood trim, beams, red pub carpet and some floor tiling. Look out for the pretty wood-carved lower servery. GBG listed, six pumps with three ales and two ciders offered 2x Tintagel and Salcombe for the casketeers. My Cornwall Pride was tidy (NBSS 3.5) and the Castle Gold even better (4), served-up by a chatty and genial landlord who is a Cornish Onslow. There’s a regular (for Cornwall!) bus service, so easy to get out here from Penzance. Based on the beer quality and friendly welcome, I recommend you do. 8.5

Visited this pub as we had found there was a beer festival on, and it was great. A large marquee had been set up in the garden, and there were 28 beers and 7 ciders on. The beers were in good condition, and the choice of breweries was outstanding and we had a good time choosing the ales to drink. A BBQ was set up outside doing burgers, hot dogs and pasties.

The pub itself is a large friendly freehouse with a choice of ales on the bar, and serves meals. It is close to the Geever mine, and bus 17 and 300 pass the door.

The above was in May 2010, and it is still as good now. We enjoyed their 2013 festival on Saturday with beers from Adnams, Bays, Dorset Piddle, Fullers, Skinners, and Tintagel. The Jacket Spud and Chilli went down well too.
