Will always have a soft spot for Dirty Dicks - you used to be able to get the best pies in town when I was working here in 2002.
A small pub at the end of the Rose Street but very atmospheric. Akin to drinking in a grotto. Particularly effective at night, when the room is illuminated by candles and 20w bulbs.

nice enough place, one room but basically split into front and back areas with knick knacks all over the walls. All a bit of a pretentious atmosphere for me though and my pint of White Rat was pretty extortionate at £5.50. the other real ales were Titanic Plum Porter and Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted. The place is, as well as expensive, foody and touristy. And extremely dark.

A dark old bar with a varied collection of stuff, whisky boxes, railway tickets, pots, things nailed to the ceiling, the door to the Gents is a work of art in an old junk kind of way. All very contrived by an interior decorator and not like the collections often seen that have grown organically. Four pulls of Scottish ales, one of which is Deuchars but the others are of decent quality, the keg offering is mostly UK standards with a couple of interlopers from Caledonia. All a wee bit cramped furniture-wise, there's a nice new old stone floor and an old fireplace. It's dark as the lighting is almost all by candles with very few electric light bulbs.
