When the New Town was built there was little provision for pubs ,and this is one of the few.Based on the ground floor with flats above,there is a sunken garden to one side and patio outside seating by the front door.The interior is interesting with a couple of small tables at each front window,a wide corridor past the right sided bar and a series of rooms off this corridor ,large snug to left side then a tiny snug further along,a larger one back on the right and then a sqaure lounge at the end.Quite a few original features knocking about,a fine carved wood bar face and a drinking shelf opposite the bar.
I came here on the back of the 2023 GBG listing and on my 10pm Thursday arrival the barman immediately apologised for the lack of ale with a lot of clips reversed and one ale being pulled through but not ready.My options were Spey Valley Sunshine on Leith and Stewarts 18 Tropical IPA Birthday Beer,which I chose.Clear but as the pint went down the unpleasant tang increased.NBSS 1.5. The pub was quiet and I wonder how long this pint had been hanging about both in the pipe and in the cellar.Over three days serious drinking in the city centre I only has two iffy pints,so a return visit doesn't seem warranted despite the interesting interior.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Cumberland Bar

Initially appears quite modern, and it seems to appeal to a younger demographic, but refurbished the multi-room interior retains quite a traditional look (with half-height wood panelling, old breweriana, etc.). Even in these troubled times, I found four of the six handpumps in use, dispensing Fyne Ales Jarl, Stewart Edinburgh Gold (£4.50), Cromarty's Raptor and TT Landlord from much further south.

Very smart pub inside and out. Has a bit of an upmarket chain feel to the place.

Does what it does well - good food, service and the Stewarts 80 shilling was fine.
