my notes from last year refer to this place as a dreadful pub with pretentious clientele, disinterested service and no real ale in the middle of the tourist season. today I found good service and good real ale so it's only fair to amend my review. this is a really old pub that has been knocked through and modernised almost completely out of recognition but you can just about detect the shell of what it used to be. real ale was Doom Bar, Tribute and the drinkable Skinners Lushingtons and at £2.90 a pint very reasonable for Newquay. scenic drinking terrace overlooking the beaches. I wouldn't like to be here on a weekend night but in the daytime it's now one of your best options in town.
