Quite busy on my lunchtime visit. The pub had 3 cask beers on show and found the pub very cosy with very friendly staff

Next door to the popular cellar bar Under the Hammer, but clearly not aiming for the same clientele, this is a disappointing let down. An attractive building, with remnants of an attractive interior (the interesting floor of patterned wood with tiled surround hints at a previous room layout, while the back-lit ceiling rose of stained glass is unusual if not unique), the presence of a photocopy of a pump clip on the one remaining operational hand pump may or may not be indicative of a lackadaisical attitude. The barman absent-mindedly charged me £3.45 for my half of Inveralmond Ossian, and changed it to £1.80 when I protested. Last time I checked, £1.80 was not half of £3.45. (I didn't see anything about a Camra members discount either - but then I very rarely do.)
