Large and rather dark interior, with various nautical bric-a-brac sttached to walls. Slightly too much mixture of old and new, which doesn't quite work.

A St Austell's Gerogian corner pub, which also does food and accommodation. It is in a cream render with white paintwork and corner stones, with a small ships figurehead above the door.
The interior is an open plan L-shaped-ish room that is a mix of lounge, dining and bar. The walls are mainly in cream and wood panel. There is a beamed ceiling and a nice fireplace. The floor is a mix of carpet, red and black tiles and stone flag. There is a raised area. There are a few sofas, along with a mix of stools and chairs. There are sea and naval (sailing ship) pictures on the walls. The do food but i didn't eat, so i can't comment on that. There is a pool taBLE AT THE BACK. There was a TV, which had BBC sport on and the background music was general and at a decent level. The service was fine. There was a mixed clientele and the place was very busy.
Beer; Usual tap stuff with St Austell Tribute, and a decent HSD and Tinners on handpull
Overall, a perfectly happy experience. It is larger than many of the other pubs around and does accommodation and food so lacks that pure pub feel but i would pop back.

This is a deceptively large, street corner pub. It's owned by St. Austells, but gives the impression of being part of a much larger chain with a corresponding corporate feel and distinct lack of atmosphere. They've made a bit of an effort with a mixture of slate tiled flooring around the bar and carpet elsewhere, but ultimately it fails to deliver much in the way of ambience.
There's a pool table out towards the back of the pub, and a front bar filled with tables which I guess is used more for eating. There's a small snug area with a couple of sofa's around a plasma and a log burning strove, and plenty of fruit/quiz machines to keep the punters amused.
Beers on tap were all from the St. Austell's stable, with their Tribute, Tinners and HSD. Ciders were Cornish Rattler and Olde English.
