Backstreet locals' boozer with a larger bar to the left of the entrance and a snug to the right. The snug was empty, whilst the landlord and landlady were present along with 3 locals on stools at the bar.

The bar has red wainscotting and red carpet, with a pool table on a black and white tiled area next to the large, frosted window to the front. The window is inscribed with the name of the pub and a large lion. There is a wood burner with a red lion on top of it next to the pool table. Elsewhere, there is a TV, a jukebox and a fruit machine. There is a West Bromwich Albion crest behind the bar and I did detect a West Midlands accent from the landlady.

There are a couple of handpulls but only Bays Topsail is generally available. This gets it into the Good Beer Guide. There is no real cider Keg ciders are Healey's Rattler & Thatcher's Gold. The Topsail is priced at just £3 a pint and mine was quite enjoyable.

Yes, there is damp in places but I found this to be a good example of a traditional backstreet local. It provides a good contrast from the town's Wetherspoon's. I think Liskeard would be much worse off without it.

Smelly cold rough place; plaster falling off the walls, damp ingress on the ceiling. 100% sausage clientele with a pool table to meet you on entry. The plaster cast lion heads were of passing interest and the rear patio garden was a surprisingly floral. GBG listed with a single ale, Bays Topsail, which was a bit barrel-endy but drinkable (NBSS 2.5). Unless you're GBG ticking there's no real reason to do this one. 4.5

A terraced pub, with a rear patio area. The facade has recently been redecorated in white render, with red and black paintwork and black painted keystones over a Romanesque doorway and windows. There is etched glass of a rampant lion.

The interior is an open plan room, with a side area. The decor is cream and red, with cream and wood panel in the side area and there was a nice fireplace feature. The walls were adorned with mirrors, rifles and hunting traps amongst other things. There was a pool table and a large TV, which wasn’t on at my visit. The background music was general stuff and at a decent level. The service was really friendly and the clientele seemingly locals – also very welcoming.

Beer; usual tap stuff with a very good Dartmoor Jail Ale and Penpont Shipwreck Coast on handpull.

I enjoyed my stop here; I found it a very friendly little locals place. I would happily pop back.
