I used to live in the house directly next door to this place and my abiding memory of the pub is that they used to let us buy a round and take it back to drink in our living room on the odd occasions when we ran out of beer in the house and couldn’t be bothered to walk to the local store. The pub was a traditional one room boozer which was kept going for years thanks to its proximity to the Vetch Field. It was a popular choice for away fans and aside from them frequently smashing up the phone box outside, we never had any trouble in the year we lived there.
The pub shut several years ago and as far as I was aware, had been turned into flats, but having passed by recently I discovered that it had reopened as a bar called ‘The Lock Up’ in 2012, although it didn’t survive past Christmas of the same year. Rather disturbingly, the place has been painted from top to bottom in the most garish shade of pink imaginable.
I don’t think the pub sold real ale as the Glamorgan and the newer Lock Up (named for the neighbouring prison) venture seemed to be a lager only venue as well.
