Steve of N21 left this review about The Butchers
Situated in the South Wales village of Altwen, just outside the town of Pontardawe, The Butchers is a food led pub halfway up the steep Altwen Hill.
A solid stone building internally there is a main bar as you enter and then a second room mainly for dining behind this. No garden that I could detect but there is a few tables on an elevated decking area to the right of the pub which afford excellent views down the valley towards Swansea. And then there is now additional outdoor seating at the back of the pub in what I guess was the car park including some swish looking cabins which I guess are a recent addition for when it was outside service only. A couple of hand pumps on the bar but only one ale on in these COVID restricted times, but it was a very good Gower Brewery Gold.
The pub has a good reputation locally for its food, which was the reason we visited and on our experience the locals are right.
