At last, a venue with a range (of sorts) of hand pumps! There were five of which four in use offering Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold, Rev James, Brains Best Bitter and a cider from Thatchers called Stan’s. The keg offering was Carling, San Miguel, Thatchers Gold, Peroni, Neck Oil, Guinness, mixed berries cider from Stowford Press and the Barry Island IPA also from Brains.
Two bar venue, the left side as you look from the road being clearly the public bar and the right side the lounge bar. The public bar was busy on my early evening arrival with locals dropping in that were either elderly or City centre workers arriving home and stopping off for one in their local. The public bar had the bar counter against the rear wall and some stools to sit on at the bar in a fully stone tiled area. Regular tables and chairs in this small bar, with a used but not lit on my visit fire grate on the wall opposite the bar counter and a dart board to the left of the fire grate and a TV to the right switched off on my visit. The lounge bar, with no hand pumps, offered the same keg choices and was more set up for diners of which there were many by the time I had finished by pint of Hobgoblin, with a mixture of seating options including some fitted high back wooden banquettes with fabric cushions. This side was carpeted and there was a log burner roaring away at the back wall opposite the small bar servery, which had a stone tiled skirt. There is some outside seating around the pub, but I can’t say it was particularly appealing, the attraction of this venue is the inside which has a good beer offering for the area and is very homely. Can't believe that the sockets were capped off to stop people here charging their phones which was a minor negative for me.
