Quite small venue with bar on left hand side on entry. Lively with Olympics on screen facing front door, and nearby dart board actively and competitively occupied on my end evening visit. Seating via banquettes, tall tables, ledges, and generally lots packed in here in a small space. A rear seating area beyond the front bar more genteel but unoccupied. Very patriotic venue with certificates of fund raising for the Royal British Legion adorning the walls. Stuff on the wall about this being the Brains Canton Hotel and pictures of yesteryear.
No cask - one handpump but not operational. Usual array of keg choices being lagers (San Miguel, Carling, Moretti & Carlsberg), ciders (Inch’s & Strongbow regular), Guinness, Barry Island IPA and Brains Smooth IPA.
Not one of the leading lights of the Canton area. Probably will remain my sole visit to this one. Alan's review below must be one of the earliest actual date of positing on the site (ie not including backdated visits)?

This pub may have seen better days. The current grey exterior looked quite drab on a gloomy November day. The front room is small and roughly square with a wood laminate floor. The windows have Cardiff Football Club logos on them. There are a couple of large TV screens one of which was off while the other was showing an old episode of Only Fools And Horses. This seemed to be keeping the landlord and the few other punters happy. There is another room behind which was dominated by a pool table.
Although there are three hand pumps only the Brains Bitter (£2.70) was on but was in decent nick. Given that there are three other Brains pubs only a short distance from here you wonder if this one will survive.

The Canton is a small looking pub from the outside that is situated almost opposite the larger looking Corporation,just off the busy cowbridge road east.
Once inside the pub i had a drink in a decent room which was comfortable enough,there may have been another room to the rear but i did'nt take note.
The pub is a Brains tied house,i had a drink of Brains bitter which was a very nice drink,the other beer was Brains Dark.
This was a decent enough pub to have a drink in.
