The single hand pump was waiting a change, so I was 30 mins too early for a pint of Santas Little Helper. The keg offering was John Smiths, Guinness, original SB, Carling, Moretti, Cruz and Thatchers Gold.

Pleasant stone roadside pub on the main drag through St Athan. Low ceilings and painted beams. The main bar is just inside the roadside entrance with the bar counter in the rear left-hand corner. Regular tables and chairs in the space busy with locals on my Sat lunchtime visit, who were in process of setting up a raffle during my short stay. A large TV on the wall to the side of the bar counter was showing a cookery programme, specifically Ainsley H prepping some steaks and showing the usual excessive enthusiasm! A fire grate containing a log burner provided some warmth. The other side of the chimney had a banquette along the right-hand wall and the space served as the darting area. The rear small bar area is carpeted and there are a couple of tables by an unused fire grate and another one the other side of a couple of stone pillars in the middle of the room. There is a small bar serving hatch but no taps or pumps this side. There are a couple of other dining areas to either side of the rear small bar area, one was busy with lunch time diners, the other not in use on my visit. There was a small seating area out the front with picnic benches and possibly a rear beer garden, but I didn't trek out to check. With a slightly wider cask offering this would be a worthwhile stop.
