A town centre terraced St Austell pub and eatery with patio area at the front. The pub is in mock-Tudor style with a brown pebble-dash frontage with black beamed front gables, although the lower half has Georgian rustication and there is coloured glass in the windows. I like it.
The interior has a U-shaped room around the central serving bar. It is in white and wood panel walls, with stone floor and a part white and part mustard ceiling. There is a raised area at the back that has a wood floor. The place was decorated in sailing ship pictures and models – not a shock as it is called the Lugger and there was a large wall painting too. The place does food, but I didn’t eat so can’t comment on that, but you still felt very much that it was a pub. There was a TV, but it wasn’t on at my visit and the music was general and at a decent level. The service was good and the clientele was a mix of drinkers and diners, many looking like holiday makers.
Beer; usual tap stuff, with a selection of St Austell drinks on handpull; Tribute, Trelawny and a very good HSD.
Another pub I liked in Fowey – this one scores for, as GHP says below, having HSD when the surrounding St Austell pubs do not. Again, very much worth a visit.

Called into Fowey for the day and found this a friendly St Austell pub. HSD, Trelawney and Tribute available on the horseshoe shaped bar, and I was pleased to get the HSD. It is my favourite St Ausatell beer and this was the first St Austell house we had found serving it after 8 weeks in Cornwall. The bar area was raised and there was a dining area. Outside seats and tables by the road.

Strange one this. If you were sat in there without a view of the bar, you'd think you were in one of those sea-side fish & chip restaurants, and not a pub at all. Just to add to that feeling there were several kids running around, even at 10:00 on a Friday night. And plenty of people eating fish & chips.
The bar itself is quite traditional though, and they stock the usual selection of St. Austell's beers (don't any of their pubs have a guest?) plus Cornish Rattler and Blackthorn ciders.
