Interesting times. The previous manager did a runner a few weeks ago, and a decent guy has taken it over. I passed there earlier on and one of the windows was boarded up. It might take a little while for it to turn round, judging from that. Still, we'll see what the future holds.

A year since my last visit and the place has changed - for the worse. It stinks. The regulars have all moved on. I don't blame them. My previous review was removed as I'd made personal remarks about a member of staff. That's fine by me, but if everyone in town is seen as 'scum' or 'lowlife', by that member of staff, and unemployed people are 'stupid bums', then I exercise my right to reply. I'd just returned from recording a heat of 'Brain of Britain' - go figure! If Enterprise Inns don't act soon Aberdare will have yet another boarded up pub, just what we need! I'll never set foot in the place again. My advice? Avoid at all costs. O out of 10 only because we can't do negative integers.

I went there this afternoon (under duress) to meet a friend. First I had to prise the landlord away from his clique at the end of the bar to get served. The place was hardly heaving, but apparently he hadn't seen me standing there. Even though I had a middle-aged female alcoholic squawking in my face, and the jukebox was blasting, I managed to order a pint of Foster's. I was given a pint of John Smith's. I didn't hear the price the landlord quoted, but it ended in 'ninety.' I gave him three pound coins. He gave me 10p change. He rang in the pint at £1.90. Either he needs a basic skills course or I've been ripped off. Two of my friends offered to buy me a pint. I said, 'Yes - next time we're somewhere else.' Even though a lot of my friends drink there (and at least one works there) I have to be honest about the place. It'll be a very long time before I go in there again - if ever.
