This bar is more of a late night venue. It hadn't opened when we walked into town from the station earlier in the afternoon, but there were a few in (mainly youngsters) when we returned later in the evening to make it our last stop before catching a train.
Tribute is the real ale in here and they don't appear to stock real cider anymore either. Keg cider options were Healey's Rattler Original & Strawberry & Lime. Craft beer was Jubel Peach or Harbour Arctic Sky.
There is a large boarded drinking and dining area which stretches a fair way back to a more raised area at the rear. Outdoor drinking is possible on patios both at the front and to the rear. At ground floor level, there is also apparently another bar for even more late night drinking. We didn't explore this and it may not have even been open.
We enjoyed some pizzas to go with our drinks. They are served from a large open kitchen just beyond the bar on the left-hand side. We enjoyed watching some of the local youngsters or possibly students fraternising with one another, relationships which seemed to include all of the bar staff too! Not the best of pubs/bars to finish on, but entertaining in its own way.

As described below, this lively pub, music venue and restaurant was once a nightclub called The Laughing Pirate. The front garden, which has a harbour view and a good selection of wooden furniture, was a better bet this time due to a very noisy live music act. Ales on were Bay’s Devon Dumpling, Tribute and Sharp’s Sea Fury, all in OK condition. A pretty average seaside boozer that makes an acceptable, if noisy, watering hole.

Located in the end of an imposing Georgian terrace, the interior has been totally modernised with a bright, lively feel. At the front is a large bar, leading through to an extensive restaurant area behind. Outside there is a patio at the front and another at the rear. A good range of ales was available, including some interesting local ones, and those sampled were in good condition (Cask Marque accredited). Late night licence and opens at 10 for breakfast. Note disabled access is via the rear.
