This is an old rather grand hotel owned by Robinson's brewery. You enter into the main hotel lobby and on the right is a small room with a bar and two hand pumps. This is where I headed for but there were signs that there was another area across the bar. The bar had two hand pumps with the seasonal Voodoo Dawn and the increasingly ubiquitous and boring Trooper, the Iron Maiden themed beer. I went for the Voodoo Dawn (£2.90) which was a tasty if a bit low on ABV red ale in very good condition. This must be the only Robinson's pub I've ever been to that wasn't serving Unicorn (aka Robbie's Best). I remember coming here decades ago and there being a bar down the side of the hotel that only opened now and again. The friendly young barman said that they hardly ever used it now.
Although this is very much a hotel bar with no pub atmosphere it would normally be the only Robbie's in town making it worth a look in my book.
