Blue Scrumpy left this review about White Hart Inn
Located in the centre of Caerleon on the High Street, it is worth noting that opening times published online on WhatPub, Google and their Facebook page are all incorrect. The correct ones can be found on the door, which at least told me what time they would be opening (2pm on a Friday, but later on other days), but really wasn't very helpful.
I tried the door in any case, as the lights were on and I could see a guy behind the bar and what looked like another customer. In the event, I suspect it was his girlfriend.
After having a drink in the St Julian Inn across the river first instead, I returned to find the pub having opened and having a couple of elderly customers. Whilst I was there, 3 other lads arrived to play pool. There are front and rear rooms (the pool table is rear right) with a drinking space adjacent to the bar connecting them. Various TVs were showing motor sport and some other strange sport that I didn't recognise. I'm not sure why they bothered having them on.
There are 2 handpulls in the front room, 1 being unclipped, with a further handpull in the rear room. Abbot was the real ale clipped in both rooms. Although pumpclips on the walls suggest that they may have a guest beer from time to time.
I know CAMRA seem to like Abbot, but I'm not sure that is sufficient to have this pub included in the latest Good Beer Guide. The Hanbury Arms and Red Lion would be better bets for inclusion.
