An extended once double-fronted Joules pub with lots of nooks and crannies, as well as a dining area. The food was good, with the only mishap being dealt with very well. As RAR says below, it is well furnished as Joules tend to do. Service was good with a very mixed clientele. Five Ales on from the Joules stable with a very good Slumbering Monk and Mosaic. Always visit when in Newport.

A good mix of old and new building wise, with Joules new red brick corner extension. The new part of the pub was tastefully finished by Joules and they have kept a traditional style in keeping with the rest of the pub. This part of the pub mostly catering for families on our visit. The snug was a good option as you can feel the history of the place, with its Yorkist fireplace, low beam ceilings and quarry tile floor.
Five Joules Beers Blonde, Pale, Slumbering Monk, Bilby's Trail and Talus Golden Ale. I went for the Bilby's Trail, which was a decent New Zealand pale ale.
This pub is handy for the bus station and there's a cracking chippy across the road.

The New Inn is a large Joule’s run pub with a bar counter centrally located on the rear wall. This supports five hand pumps that were drawing their Bob On, Mosaic (decent), Slumbering Monk, Pale and Pure Blonde. Premium keg was also available alongside Carling and a couple of Joule’s keg. To the left of the bar are front and rear seating areas where the locals had gathered, the older being at the front and younger the rear. To the right of the entrance is a snug with an exposed brick fireplace, and up the right hand side is a long seating / dining area that was empty. Out the back is a large split-level patio garden with lots of picnic tables, half of which are under cover. The music from inside is also piped into the garden. I liked it in here and would return if passing.
