Definitely a pub and not a Thai restaurant - as I had idly assumed on approach. U shaped, two rooms off a porch. Labelled as bar and lounge but there's little practical difference between them and both are served by the same bar. Fairly basic decor in a naff shade of green, thankfully there's plenty of big tins signs to break things up. Two cask, a local cliche of Doom Bar and Butty, the latter of which was in surprisingly good shape (NBSS 3.5) and fresh on. A little better than expected. 5.5

Situated not far from the town's historic Monnow Bridge and its town centre, the Green Dragon is a 2-room local's pub. Most people were sat in the bar to the right-hand side, but there is a quieter lounge to the left. There was a good mix of customers on our early Sunday afternoon visit. As we walked past later on, a couple of hikers were also just leaving the pub. As strangers, we received a friendly welcome. Doom Bar is the real ale.
