With four GBG entries and one a spoons that doesnt allow dogs, I needed to add in a couple of other outlier pubs for our two day visit. AI suggesting this should be visited as it is the oldest in town.
Fair recommendation - low ceilings, ancient hotel with a Charles II crest on the outer wall. Relatively expensive round and yet more Wye Valley. Every pub I visited had Wye Valley in town.
Really saved by a nice and busy front patio area. Hard to tell where the pub stopped and council seating started. It didnt take us long to work out the same experience could be enjoyed after a visit to Tesco Express - which may have sold something other than Butty.
Of course, we didnt.

Ancient building, circa 1660. A smallish whitewashed front bar with comedy wonky beams; take the corridor where a large rear function room is located. An oddly enclosed courtyard can be found in the middle of the pub. Two ales at the bar: Gower Gold and the ubiquitous-for-these-parts Revd James. My Gower Gold was in impressive shape and tasted great; went down a treat. Quite a tidy place and I’d be happy to pop back in based on this visit.
