An eating house in M&B's Vintage Inns chain, so a bit more upmarket than a family diner. Tastefully furnished in a cross between farmhouse and country house style, and actually as large inside as it looks outside running the whole length of various extended buildings. Notable features include a glass-topped well shaft just past the bar, and various historical and local interest prints round the walls. Despite the heavy focus on food, the area round the bar and lower room off are very pleasant for drinking, although can get pressed into dining use when busy. Extensive gardens to the rear and side are also tabled. Beerwise it had Doom Bar and a very drinkable Leeds Pale, with Black Sheep on the 'coming soon' path. Food not cheap but good for a chain.

Old Boots left this review about Three Cups
An odd looking building sitting on the slope of the river valley as you come in to the village from York. Inside it’s a long thin place, to the right a sitting area with wheel back and Windsor chairs plus some comfy button back leather seats and further on it drops down a little to another seating cum dining area. At the far left all is set out for eating. The counter is fairly central with a bank of solos, a couple of strays and three pulls; Doombar, average Black Sheep Bitter and a reversed Leeds something. Low ceilings, odd bits of old wood posts, grey wainscoting and cream walls with tasteful old prints forms the decor. It’s furnished in the middle by the counter with wooden tables and a mix of seating, banquette and dining room chairs. Cask Marque approved although the beer was middling.
