Back to its older name after a time as the White Goose, it’s in the tender (!) care of Craft Union, now open plan with the removal of more walls, the counter is to the right rear with a pool table in the area to the left, services to left in the corridor from the front door. Usual keg stuff on four T-bars, two pulls but only the one in use with a deeply sad Doombar. Mix of seating running the style and taste gauntlet, however interesting and inventive lighting solutions. Yes it’s another dodgy market town pub from Craft Union and proves the rule that the quality of a pub is inversely proportional to the number of name changes is has had.

Bar like atmosphere although it was deserted when I called at lunchtime, the front bar is more pub-like having a dart board, traditional seating and a proper foot rail on the counter, the décor is nearly all horse racing related. The back room is more bar like but has a pool table and big screen, it's furnished with round tables and wheelback chairs in light wood. There's also a big yard with picnic tables at the back. A single unused handpump graces the front barcounter otherwise you can guess the rest although the Guinness is served from cans via some sort of machine, I was assured it is very nice, and I expect they sell lots of WKDs in the evenings and at weekends.
