A large standalone roadside pub with an equally good sized beer garden. This was ale heaven when we walked in and counted 13 handpumps along the length of the bar, which included one cider. The majority of the line up were from Abbeydale and three guests. The main features in here for me apart from the bar area, was the elegant looking dining room on the right of the entrance.

This pace was not what I expected it to be as it's in Sheffield suburbia and is quite a large suburban former Ember Inn. It looks like it's been extended and is open plan split into areas.
There was a Motown soundtrack playing but overall it was fairly quiet, possibly due to a beer festival going on in a marquee in the large garden.
I counted thirteen hand pumps roughly half of which were taken up with Abbeydale beers then a cider and the rest guests.
I tried Abbeydale Absolution (£3.60) & Moonshine (£3.30), Scruffy Dog Sit! Ra & Hoppity Dawg (£3.60) and Welbeck Abbey Duck Decoy (£3.50).
I thought this was a decent enough place but a bit suburban. It's GBG 2020 listed and I'd certainly return.

By my count there are a round dozen hand pumps here, though I didn't try shaking a stick at them. With five regulars from Abbeydale and seven "guests" (which can include Abbeydale beers, and often one from their Dr Mortons series), this should indeed be a drinkers paradise, though I'm afraid I find Abbeydale beers a little too samey, blonde and not really to my taste, so that leaves "only" five beers for me to choose from on my infrequent visits here. That said, it's a fine and welcoming pub, with the feeling of a well-used local facility about it, and for a pub so far out of the city centre to stock this many real ales is unusual in my experience. The small queue which had formed at 11:58 on Christmas morning as we approached is testament to its popularity. I've never had food here: the only time I felt a little peckish when in this pub turned out to be a non-food day (Tuesday). It's a bit of a trip out, but there are others to break the journey, so well worth it, I would say.
Date of visit: 25th December 2014
A more recent visit (December 2015) found a large extension built onto the side of the pub, with now a much more food-led feel to the place. There's still the large selection of beers, but to me less of a local pub atmosphere. This may have been exacerbated by the pre-Christmas crowd, so a further visit may be required. A notable addition is the new gents toilet downstairs, with urinals fashioned from aluminium beer barrels.
