At one time the Trooper was a pleasant pub with well cared for ale. On my last visit I was told I couldn't try the guest ale (but I could but a 1/3 pint) and the Tetley's was fit for putting on my chips, it certainly wan't drinkable. The place is tired looking, even dirty. In the twenty five years I have been visiting the Trooper I sense that I am now seeing its dying years. Either the brewery installs a management team which understands something other than oven chips and lager or this place will be beyond salvation. My advice is to drink elsewhere in the meantime.

This is a multi-roomed village pub with several hand pumps scattered around the bars. Up to six ales on; when I was there these were Tetleys Bitter, Wells Bombardier, Adnams Bitter, Ruddles County and two seasonal specials. I had the Tetleys, which was in good condition.
I went in the room on the right - with a train to catch I didn't have time to explore further. There was a wide screen TV showing football, but it didn't dominate the room. Service was pleasant and there was a friendly atmosphere.
